Tasty World – Friday the 13th
If you’re not watching the wolf howl or looking for other
strange happenings on Friday the 13th, head to Tasty World where
you could win a free burrito.
This Friday Tasty World will host four garage rock bands. The first
fifty people to arrive will receive a pin promoting Television Buzz
that is also good for a free burrito at the downtown Taco Stand.
Television Buzz will kick off the show, which begins at 10 p.m.
With already over 41 radio stations playing their single “Treasure
Chest”, and a record deal with Glass Bag Records, Television
Buzz is sure to refresh your ears.
The Empties will follow their set, starting around 11 p.m. With
nearly 2,500 friends on MySpace, this Athens based band is steadily
putting roots in Atlanta. They introduced their five-track EP on
WUOG 90.5 FM’s “Live in the Lobby” in late February,
and one track, “It’s Not Me” has racked up 13,500
plays on MySpace.
Band Marino, who cite influences from the The Pixies to Radiohead,
will follow The Empties.
“They’re flippin’ awesome,” Maryann Hyunn,
a senior at the University of Georgia said of Band Marino. “It’s
going to be a great show.”
Band Marino released their first full-length album in December.
Around the same time, they also did the soundtrack/score to the
feature film The Last Romantic, which is currently playing at both
U.S. and international film festivals.
Hey Revolution, an Orlando based band that now cites Athens as
home, will headline the show.
Jason Ellis, the lead singer, started his music days long ago,
but toured solely as an acoustic act.
“I kind of had this vision of doing an acoustic rock and
roll, full band-type thing,” Ellis told Flagpole. “But
it was always hard to get players and put everything together.”
Friday night these bands will prove their strength to draw crowds
and put on a big show.
“I haven’t heard music from all the bands, but I’m
excited about the show,” said Stephen King, a local Athens
musician.
The bottom line? Come out for some catchy tunes that go above and
beyond your typical 99x rock n’ roll.
