Flyers:
Local Bands:
We encourage you to flyer early and often, at
least one week before the show. The College Ave. kiosks and the record
stores are prime spots. Please note that local ordinances prohibit
flyers on newspaper boxes, electrical boxes, telephone or traffic
light poles, street signs, or basically anything the city owns. Obscenity
(the FCC’s definition, not yours) or anything advertising free booze
(whether your kidding or not) is prohibited as well. Failure to comply
with the ordinances could result in a police officer coming to your
show to write you a ticket, not to buy one. Do not hang flyers in/on
any business without permission. And please, only use scotch tape
to hang flyers in windows. Duct or packing tape leaves a residue that
is very difficult to clean off. It makes us crazy. We know that handbills
seem like a good idea, but they’re not. In the words of the late Mitch
Hedberg, when someone gives you a hand bill it’s like saying, “Here,
you throw this away.” Unfortunately, most people won’t throw them
away. If you’re lucky, they’ll end up a coaster. If you aren’t so
lucky, they end up on the ground and may potentially cause some otter
in Oregon to choke to death. Nobody likes a dead otter. So save yourself
some money, and save an otter.
Touring bands:
Please send flyers (15
- 20 would be plenty) so that they will arrive at least one week before
your show to:
Tasty World Attn: Flyers (insert date of show here)
312 E. Broad Street Athens, GA 30601
Day of show:
Load-In:
Unless you have made different arrangements with Tasty World’s booking
staff when you booked the show, load-in is at 8:30 pm. Street parking
behind Tasty World after 6:00 pm is allowed, provided you are parked
along a red curb, facing the right way. If you park on a yellow
curb, or facing the wrong way, you might be ticketed or towed. Do
not leave you vehicle parked overnight in the red zone, as you may
be ticketed or towed the next day. There is a UGA parking lot behind
Tasty World open to the public after 5:15 pm. Again, do not leave
your vehicle parked in the lot overnight.
Please check in with the soundman when you arrive. There is a large
alcove in the back of the club for gear. Please avoid keeping any
gear in the hallway and do not block any doors. If you require more
room, please talk to the soundman about keeping some gear in the
closet. Do not set any gear on stage until the soundman gives you
the okay. There is a recording studio on the third floor of our
building (www.darcsound.com),
so as a courtesy to them and to our happy hour customers, please
do not bring the rock until soundcheck.
Soundcheck:
Unless different arrangements are made
with the Tasty World booking staff when you book the show, only the
first band will soundcheck. Subsequent bands will have a line check
before their set. Soundcheck is at 9:00 pm. If you have special technical
requirements, please inform the club as early as possible so that
we can accommodate you.
Compensation & Production Charges:
Unless
different arrangements are made with the Tasty World booking staff
when you book the show, the door money is split evenly between all
acts after the production charges are taken out. When you book the
show, ask the club’s agent what the production charge for your show
is.
During the show:
To ensure that all of the bands on the bill get
their allotted set time, it behooves you to set up and tear down your
gear as quickly as possible. It is also courteous to wait until the
last band is completely off the stage before you begin to set up.
We encourage you to meet and greet your fans after you have torn down
your gear, and away from the stage, so that the band following you
have a clear path to set up. There will be a merch area near the front
door.
After the show:
In Athens-Clarke County,
all booze sales must end at 2:00 am, and all non-employees must
vacate the premises no later than 2:45 am. That doesn’t mean starting
to leave at 2:45. It mean that there are no non-employees in the
building at 2:45 am. This includes band members and anybody who
is “With the band.” As much as we would all love to hang out together
after the show, we risk serious penalties if we do not comply with
these laws. Please: We encourage you to put a sticker on the wall
of the cooler by the stage, alongside the many other wonderful bands
that have played at Tasty World. But we discourage you from putting
your sticker anywhere else. And we do not appreciate your band’s
name, website, gang tag, limerick, political opinion, or for-a-good-time
phone number on our bathroom walls, or anywhere else in the club.
The chemicals we have to use to clean that up are very caustic,
and put quite a strain on our delicate systems. |
